It was reported that five construction workers, comprised of Nepalese and Indonesian, were injured when the scaffolding they were working on at a construction yard in Taman Melawati collapsed.
In the 10pm incident, Selangor fire and rescue assistant director chief Sani Harul said one construction worker who sustained critical injuries had been taken to the Ampang Hospital for treatment.
The incident is believed to have occurred around 10pm.
At press time, no casualties were reported. However, firemen who arrived with four firetrucks, were still combing the area. Sources claimed, the collapse could have been due to weak concrete structure or problems caused by the scaffolding.
Project developer Binapuri Holdings Berhad when contacted said it would investigate the cause of the accident.
“We will investigate the incident. Some 25 workers were at the site at that time. The 1.62ha construction area is for the building of the Melawati Mall. Project started in 2013,” said project director Anthony Lee.
