It was reported that one worker has been killed and another trapped during an incident at the Semantan Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) portal construction site in Kuala Lumpur.

According to a statement by MRT Corp, the incident, which occurred at 1.20pm involved three workers.

“Forty-year-old Rijaul Abdul Goni was killed on the spot, while another worker, Shanaullah, 37, suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).

“The third worker, Rozul Karim was not injured,” said the 4.30pm statement.

 MRT strategic communications director, Amir Mahmood Razak said the body of the deceased worker has been sent to HKL.

“The body has been sent there for a post mortem and we hope that it will be able to determine the cause of his death.

“We are really regretful of the incident and all works at the location has been halted until the investigations are complete,” he said.

The statement added that the incident occurred while the two workers were fabricating a steel cage at the site, when a cable snapped, causing the steel bars to collapse on the workers.

“The police arrived at the scene at 3pm and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident,” said the statement.
