The driver of the car – a Malaysian – was severely injured while two construction workers fell 120 feet from the construction site and died at the scene.

A Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said that firemen are currently rescuing another worker trapped at the site.

“We received a call on the incident at 8.45am and 25 firemen from Cheras, Tun Razak and Hang Tuah were deployed to the scene,” he said in a statement.

The authorities have confirmed that there are six victims of the crane that collapsed on a car at a Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE) construction site here.

“Three died, while the driver of the car was gravely injured and has been sent to the hospital. Two other workers have been rescued,” said Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department chief Nordin Md Pauzi.

“We believe that we shall have updates in about three hours, ” he said when met at the scene at Puncak Banyan, Persiaran Alam Damai on Monday (March 22).

Nordin said that the difficulty in retrieving the third body was due to stability issues and the weight of the crane.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohamed Mokhsein Mohamed Zon, who was also present there, said that the driver that was injured was driving his car when his vehicle was crushed by the crane.

“He has been sent to HUKM for further treatment. The police have opened an investigation paper and the deceased bodies have been sent for a post-mortem, ” he said.
